Crackle, Sony Pictures Television Networks’ free, ad-supported streaming network, today announced that it has acquired distribution rights in NORTH AMERICA to the comedy-horror film, OFFICE UPRISING. The feature from Mind the GAP Productions and The Exchange, a production, financing and sales company, is currently in post-production and will release in Summer 2018.

Office Uprising follows the story of an underachiever working at a major weapons manufacturing firm who finds that his co-workers have been “weaponized” by a new energy drink designed for the military. He must then set off to rescue his one true love from an office building full of psychotic coworkers armed with tomorrow’s deadliest tech.

The feature stars Brenton Thwaites (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dean Men Tell No Tales), Jane Levy (Don’t Breathe), Karan Soni (Deadpool), Zachary Levi (Tangled) and Alan Ritchson (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, “Blue Mountain State”). […]

“Sea Oak,” ‘The Climb” and “Love You More” — Amazon’s three comedy pilots from this season — will not be moving forward to series, Variety has confirmed.

The move reflects the new programming strategy mandated by Jeff Bezos, away from niche offerings and toward tentpole projects like the new iteration of “Lord of the Rings.” Amazon is said to be searching for big hit series that can run for multiple seasons.

Another factor at play is the shift in leadership at Amazon Studios. The executives who greenlit the projects, which bowed on November 10, have all exited — from content head Roy Price to comedy and drama chief Joe Lewis. COO Albert Chang has been serving as interim head while the search continues for a replacement for Price. […]

And the black comedy “Sea Oak” starred Close as a Rust Belt woman who comes back from the dead after she’s killed in a home invasion. “Atlanta’s” Hiro Murai directed the pilot and exec produces with creator George Saunders, Jonathan Krauss and Evan Dunsky. […]
